From Sukhumi to Khurvaleti<\/span><\/h2>

The Story of the Director of a Nursing Home Near the Occupation Line<\/b><\/p>

Sixty-five-year-old Luda Salia is a native of Sukhumi, a medic by background. When the war began in Abkhazia in 1992, Luda worked as a nurse at the Agudzera hospital. She took care of the wounded throughout the 13 months and 13 days of the violent armed conflict. Luda remained in Abkhazia until the last moment \u2013 she left only in September 1993, after the fall of Sukhumi.<\/span><\/p>

At that time she could hardly imagine that 30 years after the war she would have to live near barbed wire installed by Russian militaries in a completely different part of Georgia.<\/span><\/p>

In 2016, with the support of German and American donors, Luda opened a nursing home in the village of Khurvaleti, Gori region, near the administrative border with South Ossetia. Presently she has 17 beneficiaries under her care, the oldest of whom is about 95 years old.<\/span><\/p>

Luda does everything to create a safe and comfortable environment for them, despite the proximity of the Russian military base to Khurvaleti, regular abductions of local residents and many other problems in the conflict zone.<\/span><\/p>

Although Luda is aware of the danger, she considers it her duty to protest against the \u201ccreeping occupation\u201d and help people on both sides of the barbed wire.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cEveryone asks me whether I\u2019m afraid or not. I always have one answer: what I feared most has already happened. We lost Sukhumi, we lost Abkhazia. We have nothing more to fear. Now we have to endure this too, we have to fight,\u201d says Luda.<\/span><\/p>

Die 65-j\u00e4hrige Luda Salia ist geb\u00fcrtige Sokhumerin und von Beruf \u00c4rztin. Als der Krieg in Abchasien 1992 begann, arbeitete Luda als Krankenschwester in einem Hospital in Agudzera. 13 Monate und 13 Tage dauerte der heftige, bewaffnete Konflikt. Und w\u00e4hrend seiner gesamten Dauer k\u00fcmmerte sie sich um die Verwundeten. Luda blieb bis zur letzten Stunde in Abchasien und verlie\u00df das Gebiet erst 1993, nach dem Fall von Sokhumi.<\/span><\/p>

Damals h\u00e4tte sie sich damals kaum vorstellen k\u00f6nnen, an einem von russischen Soldaten erbauten Stacheldraht in einem anderen Gebiet Georgiens leben zu m\u00fcssen.<\/span><\/p>

2016 er\u00f6ffnete Salia \u2013 Dank der Unterst\u00fctzung von deutschen und amerikanischen Gebern \u2013 ein Altersheim im Dorf Khurvaleti im Gebiet Gori, welches an der Verwaltungsgrenze zu S\u00fcdossetien liegt. Heute versorgt sie dort 17 Personen, der \u00e4lteste von ihnen ist 95 Jahre alt.<\/span><\/p>

Salia macht alles, um ein sicheres und komfortables Umfeld zu schaffen – ungeachtet der N\u00e4he des russischen Milit\u00e4rst\u00fctzpunktes zu Khurvaleti, der regelm\u00e4\u00dfigen Entf\u00fchrungen der lokalen Bewohner und vieler weiterer Probleme im Konfliktgebiet.<\/span><\/p>

Obwohl sich Luda der Gefahr bewusst ist, f\u00fchlt sie sich verpflichtet, gegen die \u201ekriechende Besatzung\u201c zu protestieren sowie den Menschen auf beiden Seiten des Stacheldrahts zu helfen.<\/span><\/p>

\u00abAlle stellen mir diese Frage, man fragt also mich, ob ich Angst habe. Ich habe immer die gleiche Antwort: Wovor ich am meisten Angst hatte, ist bereits eingekehrt. Wir haben Sokhumi und Abchasien verloren. Wir brauchen keine Angst mehr zu haben. Wir m\u00fcssen nun das aushalten und k\u00e4mpfen\u00bb, sagt Salia.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

Kiedy w 1992 roku w Abchazji rozpocz\u0119\u0142a si\u0119 wojna, Liuda pracowa\u0142a jako piel\u0119gniarka w szpitalu we wsi Agudzera.
